Certification Program Name:Auto Negotiation
Certification Program ID:10600
Certification Program Category:Switch Interoperability
Description:This verifies a device's ability to establish the highest available speed and duplex settings across multiple vendor combinations.
Interpretation:Devices earning this certification have demonstrated the ability to establish the highest available speed and duplex settings in all possible vendor combinations. 2007 Certified Product Set: 3Com Switch 4200G 3Com Switch 4500G 3Com Switch 5500G-EI Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch 6850-P24X Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch 9800 Cisco Catalyst 6509-E Enterasys SecureStack™ A2 Enterasys SecureStack™ B3 Enterasys SecureStack™ C3 Enterasys Matrix™ N-DFE Enterasys Matrix™ X Extreme Summit X450a-24t Extreme BlackDiamond 8806 Foundry FastIron Edge X424 Premium Foundry FastIron SX 800 Foundry NetIron MLX-4 Foundry BigIron RX-4 IBM Nortel Layer 2-3 GbE Switch Module IBM Nortel 10Gb Uplink Ethernet Switch Module HP GbE2c L2/3 Ethernet Blade Switch for HP c-Class BladeSystem 2004 Certified Product Set: 3Com: SuperStack 3 Switch 3870 Cisco Systems: Catalyst 650 Dell: PowerConnect 3324 Dell: PowerConnect 5324 Extreme: BlackDiamond 10808 Foundry: FastIron Edge 9604 Foundry: BigIron MG8 HP: ProCurve 2848 HP: ProCurve 5308 2003 Certified Product Set 3Com: Switch 4060 3Com: SuperStack Switch 4400 Cisco Systems: Catalyst 6500 Dell PowerConnect 3348 Dell PowerConnect 5224 Enterasys Matrix N3 Foundry FastIron Edge 9604 Hirschmann Industrial Ethernet Rail Switch RS2-FX/FX Nortel Passport 1424T Nortel Passport 8600
Product Applicability:This certification is applicable to all LAN switches. It is an optional component of the 2003/2004 Switch Interoperability Study.
Testing Overview:Adjacent ports on the switches under test will be configured to autonegotiate speed and duplex support. A Tolly Group engineer shall view the console of each vendor’s system to confirm that port is set to auto negotiate. Thereafter, the two switches will be connected via a Category 5 cross over cable. A Tolly Group engineer will then determine, via the switch consoles, the speed and duplex settings reported by each. If both reported configurations are identical, engineers will generate a stream of 1,518-byte frames for duration of 1 minute at a rate appropriate for the reported configuration. Note: If the switches report 10 Mbit/s, engineers will generate more than 10 Mbit/s in each direction to confirm the speed setting.
